Violinist Benjamin Beilman, a fast-rising star, performs on one of the world’s legendary instruments: the 1740 Guarneri “del Gesù,” once owned by the Belgian violinist-composer Eugène Ysaÿe. This program features two works premiered by Ysaÿe—most likely on this very violin: the epic Romantic sonata by César Franck, and Ysaÿe’s own Ballade. The phenomenal pianist and Chamber Music Sedona regular Gloria Chien joins Beilman for this thrilling program, which also includes works by Bartók, Szymanowski, and American composer Chris Rogerson.
Program
Eugène Ysaÿe: Sonata in D minor for Violin, Op. 27, No. 3, “Ballade”
Béla Bartók: Sonata No. 2 for Violin and Piano, BB 85
Karol Szymanowski: Nocturne and Tarantella for Violin and Piano, Op. 28
Chris Rogerson: Arietta for Violin and Piano (New York Premiere, 2021)
César Franck: Sonata in A major for Violin and Piano
